Rachel Weisz donates Chatila necklace to charity
27 Nov 2008
Actress Rachel Weisz has donated a floral brilliant-cut diamond pendant by Chatila to charity The Constant Gardener Trust, of which she is a patron. The necklace, which has been valued at between £3,000 and £4,000, will be put to auction as part of Sotheby’s Important Jewels Sale next month.
The necklace was presented to Weisz for her outstanding contribution to film on the eve of the British Academy Film Awards as a Steinmetz Diamond Award.
Weisz said: “I am thrilled by the progress that our very small, but very effective, charity has made. It is very heart-warming to see the progress of the trust's school in Loiyangalani and medical camp in Kibera. With the auction of this beautiful necklace, we hope to progress even further with the building of classrooms, something we take for granted in our lives, but is an extraordinary event in the lives of these African children.”
The Constant Gardener Trust was set up in 2004 by the crew of the eponymous film to help African communities the crew met during filming of the movie.
